Base Price for Multan Sultans
The base price for the Multan Sultans Auction is expected to follow the benchmarks set by the newly inducted franchises. Recently, Sialkot was sold for PKR 1.8 billion, while the Hyderabad franchise was acquired for PKR 1.7 billion.
Reports suggest that the opening bid for the Sultans will likely start around PKR 1.7 billion, given the team’s successful track record and massive digital following. This reflects the 34% surge in league valuation compared to the original prices of the first five teams.
Will Ali Tareen Participate in Multan Sultans Bidding?
Ali Tareen, the former owner of the franchise, has expressed a strong interest in reclaiming the team during this process. Although he stayed away from the bidding for the two new franchises earlier this month, he has publicly hinted at a comeback.
After careful consideration, my family and I have decided not to participate in today’s PSL franchise auction.
— Ali Khan Tareen (@aliktareen) January 8, 2026
Our time with Multan Sultans was never just about owning a cricket team. It was about South Punjab. About giving a voice to a region that had been overlooked for too…
Tareen previously left the franchise due to various administrative and financial disagreements with the PCB management. However, he has recently posted cryptic messages on social media indicating that his family is “ready” to bid once the Multan team is officially up for sale.
Who Owns Multan Sultans?
Currently, the PCB holds the ownership and operational control of Multan Sultans. The board assumed command after the existing franchise agreement expired and was not renewed at the end of 2025.
Before this transition, the team was owned by the Tareen family, who managed the side through their most successful periods. The PCB current ownership is an interim arrangement until the new successful bidder is confirmed through the ongoing auction process.
